Turkish defence authorities say 503 foreign military personnel, including members of the Turkish Cypriot forces, are currently receiving mountain commando training in Isparta.

A total of 503 military personnel from north Cyprus and four other countries are currently being trained at the Mountain Commando School and Training Centre in Isparta, according to figures released by Turkey’s Ministry of Defence.

The information was presented during the ministry’s weekly press briefing, where Turkish defence officials also said training places had been allocated for a further 448 personnel from 16 countries and north Cyprus for the 2026-2027 period.

The ministry said the programme forms part of Turkey’s military training and advisory activities carried out under bilateral agreements with what it described as “friendly and allied countries”.

According to the announcement, the personnel currently undergoing training in Isparta come from Kyrgyzstan, north Cyprus, Mali, Libya and Somalia.

Turkey’s Ministry of Defence also said that, under the 2026-2027 Guest Military Personnel Training Place Planning Programme, training slots have been allocated to personnel from Azerbaijan, Burundi, Bangladesh, Guinea, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, north Cyprus, North Macedonia, Libya, Hungary, Mali, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Senegal, Somalia and Turkmenistan.

The ministry added that the total number is expected to rise during the year, depending on additional requests for available places submitted by participating countries.
