he Council of Ministers on Thursday approved a new round of appointments to several public bodies and institutions during a meeting chaired by President Nikos Christodoulides.
New appointments at CySEC and Central Bank
At the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC):
- Georgios Karatzias was appointed Chairman for a five-year term.
- Loukas Lagoudis was appointed Vice-Chairman for a five-year term.
- Andrea Mounti Savvidi was appointed as a board member for five years.
The Cabinet also approved the appointment of Panikkos Vakkos as an Executive Board Member of the Central Bank of Cyprus.
New leadership at the Youth Board
At the Youth Board of Cyprus (ONEK):
- Pambos Christodoulou was appointed Chairman.
- Thanos Christodoulou was appointed Vice-Chairman.
New board members are:
- Zafeiro Kastanou
- Stavros Sotiriou
- Iakovos Iakovou
Existing members Alexandros Gerolatsiitis and Fotis Trimbakkiros will remain on the board.
Appointments to refugee and deaf education bodies
The Cabinet also approved:
- Lefteris Antoniou as Chairman of the Pancyprian Union of Refugees.
- Marilena Evangelou as Chair of the School for the Deaf.
First board appointed for National Cancer Institute
The government approved the composition of the first board of the National Cancer Institute.
Appointments include:
- Dr Pavlos Dragos (Chairman)
- Dr Elena Panayiotopoulou (Health Ministry representative)
- Anna Demetriou (Health Ministry representative)
- Elena Zachariadou (Finance Ministry representative)
- Dr Pantelis Kountourakis (Pancyprian Medical Association representative)
- Dr Marios Antoniades (Pancyprian Medical Association representative)
- Antonis Tryfonos (OSAK representative)
- Eleni "Lina" Tolma, Associate Professor and representative of the Conference of Rectors
- Professor Constantinos N. Fellas, representative of the Cyprus National Bioethics Committee
Other appointments
The Cabinet further approved:
- Panayiota Hadjigeorgiou, civil engineer, as a board member of the Cyprus Land Development Corporation (KOAG).
- Marianna Gallidi, musicologist, as a board member of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra Foundation.
