Mediators have delivered a proposal to Iran aimed at de-escalating its war with the United States, offering a ten-day ceasefire to allow ways to be found of reviving an interim agreement reached last month, an Iranian official told Reuters on Monday.
Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni is due to travel to Pakistan on Monday, a country mediating in the Middle East conflict, a source at Pakistan's interior ministry told AFP. The source confirmed the minister would meet Pakistani officials in the capital, but did not clarify whether the visit was connected to Islamabad's diplomatic efforts to end hostilities between the United States and Iran.
Iran's foreign ministry spokesperson said earlier Monday that diplomatic efforts with the United States continue through mediators, despite the American military's bombing of Iranian territory.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Monday that Iran faces a "total" war with the United States and warned of the consequences for the country's economy. "The reality is that today, the Islamic Republic of Iran faces total war" from the United States, Pezeshkian said, adding that Iranians must "accept the natural consequences of this resistance," according to remarks carried by the presidency's website.
