An Austrian tourist coach carrying German secondary school pupils collided with a delivery van in the eastern Netherlands early on Monday. About 20 people were injured, including several seriously, according to Dutch police.
Eight taken to hospital
Eight people were taken to hospital, while others sustained minor injuries.
“Some of those taken to hospital are seriously injured,” police in the province of Gelderland said in a post on X.
The driver of the delivery van was also among those injured.
More than 50 people on board
The collision occurred at around 4am on the A28 motorway near Wezep, about 100 kilometres east of Amsterdam.
A police spokesperson said more than 50 people were travelling on the coach.
The motorway was closed in both directions following the crash.
Images released after the collision showed firefighters helping pupils leave the coach through its roof. Many passengers were injured by shattered glass.
