Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has sent a message to Ankara following Turkish objections to Greece's Special Spatial Planning Frameworks for Renewable Energy Sources and Tourism, insisting that Athens will not alter its plans.
Speaking during a Cabinet meeting, Mitsotakis said Turkish reactions would not affect Greek policy and underlined that issues relating to Greek sovereignty are founded on international law.
"The reactions coming from the east in response to our actions do not affect our planning. Areas of Greek sovereignty derive from International Law and we are ready to defend them at any time," Mitsotakis said.
Dialogue limited to maritime delimitation
The Greek prime minister also reiterated Athens' desire to maintain good relations with neighbouring countries, while restating the limits of dialogue with Turkey.
"We want good relations with our neighbours. However, we are not discussing anything beyond the delimitation of the continental shelf and the Exclusive Economic Zone in the Aegean and the Eastern Mediterranean," he said.
Message to Ankara
The remarks came amid renewed tensions following Turkish criticism of Greece's spatial planning policies, with Mitsotakis seeking to make clear that questions of sovereignty are non-negotiable from Athens' perspective.
He stressed that Greece's positions are grounded in International Law and reaffirmed the country's readiness to safeguard its sovereign rights.
