Strengthening economic and trade ties between Turkey and Libya was discussed in Istanbul by Turkish Trade Minister Ömer Bolat and Suhail Abdulmutalib Busheha, the economy and trade minister of Libya’s Government of National Unity.
In a post on the X platform, Bolat said the two sides had reaffirmed their commitment to raising bilateral trade to $5 billion. He also highlighted the countries’ historical ties, which span more than 500 years.
The meeting included a discussion on holding a Turkey–Libya Business and Investment Forum alongside the first session of the Joint Economic and Trade Commission (JETCO).
The ministers also reviewed progress in addressing problems faced by Turkish companies in Libya, where they had undertaken their first projects abroad.
The Turkish minister said Ankara would continue its efforts to strengthen trade and investment ties with Libya, including through further development of the relevant legal framework.
The meeting comes amid increased Turkish diplomatic activity in Libya, following recent developments concerning the Turkey–Libya memorandum on maritime zones in the Eastern Mediterranean.
