President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides participated on Friday via videoconference in a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing for Ukraine, which was convened by Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, and President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
A written statement by the Deputy Government Spokesperson, Yiannis Antoniou, said the videoconference was attended, among others, by leaders of European and other countries, the heads of the European Council and the European Commission, as well as the Secretary General of NATO.
The main objective of the meeting was to continue the coordination and intensify the efforts of like-minded states in terms of taking effective measures with the ultimate goal of achieving a permanent ceasefire and lasting peace, the press release says.
In the context of the meeting, it adds, the participants reaffirmed their commitment to the need to defend the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.
"Cyprus, which has been experiencing the occupation of a large part of its territories for 51 years after the illegal Turkish invasion, is an active member of this international Coalition, which aims to achieve a just peace that respects the United Nations Charter, but also defends the security of Ukraine as well as Europe", he concluded.
