The President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides and the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al Nahyan, will adopt a Joint Declaration, in a bid to enhance the strategic relations between the two countries.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al Nahyan is on an official visit to Cyprus, following an invitation by the Christodoulides. The Presidents were expected meet at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia at noon.
In a written statement, Government Spokesman, Konstantinos Letymbiotis, notes that this is a "historic visit, the first by the President of the United Arab Emirates to Cyprus, which affirms in the most official way the new dynamics developing in the relations of the two countries as well as the strategic depth and maturity these relations have acquired."
Tangible results
Letymbiotis added that this visit has a special political importance since it signals the transition of the bilateral relations from the strategic convergence to the strategic implementation, with emphasis on specific deliverable and tangible results.
"It is, at the same time, a strong message of confidence for the Republic of Cyprus as a reliable partner and a stable hub in the Eastern Mediterranean, at a time of increased challenges for the region", he adds.
During his stay in Cyprus, the President of the United Arab Emirates will have a private meeting with the President of the Republic, which will be followed by expanded talks between the respective delegations.
According to the Government Spokesman, central to the talks will be the additional upgrading of the bilateral relations with special emphasis on investments, energy, economic cooperation, the upcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union by the Republic of Cyprus on 1st January, 2026, as well as the related prospects for enhancing the relations between the European Union and the Gulf countries, regional developments, and the developments concerning the Cyprus problem.
Investment opportunities
During the visit, it is expected that specific initiatives for cooperation in crucial areas are to be determined, which will constitute a practical road map for the implementation of the strategic relationship.
It is noted that, in the context of the visit, Ministers and other officials of the United Arab Emirates are already in Cyprus, and on Saturday they participated in an investment forum with the organizations Invest Cyprus, the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in the presence of a representative of the Chamber of Commerce of the United Arab Emirates, along with a business delegation, aiming to strengthen even more the investment and business cooperation through the establishment of fixed structures and the promotion of mature projects.
At the end of their meeting, the two Presidents will adopt a Joint Declaration in which the decision for enhancing the strategic relation between the two countries will be specifed.
