A delegation from Europol is in Cyprus as part of efforts to strengthen the operational capacity and effectiveness of the Cyprus Police, with emphasis on intelligence-led policing and upgraded mechanisms to tackle serious and organised crime.

Visit under the “Cyprus Police 2030” modernisation programme

The visit is taking place at the initiative of Themistos Arnaoutis, Chief of Police, and falls within the framework of the “Cyprus Police 2030” modernisation programme.

It forms part of a broader strategic effort to enhance the force’s operational readiness, analytical capabilities and overall effectiveness in addressing complex and evolving criminal threats.

Expertise and operational guidance from Europol

During their stay, the Europol delegation will provide technical expertise and specialised guidance, supporting the design and implementation of modern analytical tools and operational practices.

The cooperation places particular emphasis on the systematic use of intelligence-led policing, strengthening data analysis, information sharing and evidence-based decision-making in law enforcement operations.

Linked to new Directorate on Organised Crime

The visit is directly linked to the advanced process of establishing the Directorate for the Combating of Organised Crime, a cornerstone reform within the ongoing modernisation of the Cyprus Police.

The new directorate is expected to play a central role in coordinating efforts against serious and organised crime, aligning national practices with European standards and enhancing cooperation with international partners.
