Putin Proposes $1bn from Frozen Russian Assets for the Board of Peace

Offer reportedly raised in talks with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, according to Russian state media

Russian President Vladimir Putin has proposed allocating one billion dollars from Russian assets frozen in the United States to support the Board of Peace, the initiative launched by US President Donald Trump, with the stated aim of assisting the Palestinian people.

According to Russia’s state news agency TASS, the proposal was made during a conversation between Putin and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

Putin also said that the idea of using frozen Russian assets to fund the Board of Peace had previously been discussed with the United States, Russian news agency Interfax reported.

US envoys expected in Moscow

Putin is expected to meet US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. The Kremlin has underlined the importance of bilateral economic relations and trade as part of the ongoing talks between Moscow and Washington.
