Regional developments and the strategic importance of ties between the Republic of Cyprus and Qatar were at the centre of talks held in Doha on Tuesday between Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos and Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani.

According to a statement from the Foreign Ministry, the meeting included an exchange of views on developments in the wider region, alongside discussions on the strategic significance of the partnership between the two countries.

Kombos reaffirmed Cyprus’ strong and consistent solidarity in light of what he described as unjustified attacks against Qatar and its partners in the Gulf.

Both sides also underlined the importance of close coordination, as well as the need to strengthen maritime security and ensure energy resilience, describing them as key factors for maintaining regional stability.

The ministry added that diplomacy, restraint and dialogue were highlighted as the only viable path towards de-escalation and the consolidation of stability in the region.
