Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhürman said he will share the will of his “people” for a solution to the Cyprus problem with the United Nations Secretary General during their scheduled meeting on the 11th of the month. The statement was made in a post on his Facebook account.

Upcoming meeting with the UN Secretary General

Erhürman wrote that it is important to have the opportunity to discuss developments in the Cyprus problem face to face with António Guterres. He said the meeting will allow for a direct exchange of views on the current state of the process.

Positions to be presented

According to Erhürman, he will convey to the UN Secretary General “the will of our people for a solution”, along with his views on what steps are needed to create an environment conducive to a settlement. He added that he will also present his positions on the methodology that should be defined in order for the process to be completed successfully this time.

Approach to the process

Erhürman stressed that progress should not be pursued through what he described as manipulative efforts or accusations in the media. Instead, he said, the process should move forward on the basis of the will of his community for a solution, through diplomacy and dialogue.

He added that this approach should be characterised by patience, composure, determination and seriousness.
