CyBC Poll Shows DISY and AKEL in Dead Heat for First Place

Figures also reveal majority support for British bases withdrawal, while satisfaction with the government's handling of the Middle East war remains divided

DISY and AKEL are locked in a neck-and-neck race for first place, according to a poll conducted by MRC Cypronetwork Ltd on behalf of CyBC. The survey shows falling support for ELAM, the ALMA movement and the Direct Democracy Cyprus party compared to April's figures, while DIKO rises by one percentage point.

Party standings

DISY and AKEL are both at 18% in voting intention, followed by ELAM at 11.5%. DIKO and ALMA are fighting hard for fourth place, each on 7.5%. Direct Democracy stands at 5.5%, with Volt, EDEK and the Greens Movement each on 2.5%. DIPA and the Hunters' Movement are both at 1%. Undecided voters account for 7%, while 5.5% say they will abstain, 1.5% intend to cast a blank or spoiled ballot and 7% did not respond. ELAM records the highest voter consolidation at 77%, followed closely by AKEL at 76%, while DISY reaches 60%. DIKO stands at 59%, the Greens at 50% and EDEK at 48%. DIPA trails at 37%.

British bases

A majority of 56% of respondents said the British Bases should leave Cyprus, while 38% believe they should remain. Support for keeping the bases is strongest among DISY voters at 60%, DIKO at 57% and DIPA at 71%. Those calling for their removal include 72% of AKEL voters, 76% of ALMA, 66% of Direct Democracy, 59% of ELAM, 60% of EDEK, 58% of the Greens and 56% of Volt voters. Some 62% support the doctrine of a unified defence space between Greece and Cyprus, while only 12% oppose it. A further 19% remain neutral and 7% expressed no opinion.

The Middle East war

Overall, 43% expressed satisfaction with the Christodoulidis government's handling of the Middle East war, while 52% said they were not particularly satisfied or not satisfied at all. Among party supporters, those expressing satisfaction include 64% of DISY voters, 59% of DIKO, 54% of EDEK and 52% of ELAM. Dissatisfaction is highest among AKEL voters at 72%, DIPA and Direct Democracy both at 65%, Volt at 75%, ALMA at 69% and the Greens at 53%.

When asked who they thought would win the war, 44% said Israel and the United States, while only 3% chose Iran. Meanwhile, 92% believe the conflict will have negative consequences for the Cypriot economy. Only 26% expressed satisfaction with how democracy functions in Cyprus, while 68% said they were dissatisfied. A majority of voters across all parties reported dissatisfaction.

The poll was conducted by telephone across Cyprus between 10 and 26 March 2026, with a sample of 1,402 individuals aged 18 and over who are eligible to vote. A random multi-stage stratified sampling method was used. The sample is representative of the general population. At a 95% confidence interval, the margin of error is plus or minus 2.7%.
