Traffic conditions remain affected today, Friday 24 April, both as a result of earlier protests and the heightened security measures in force due to the Informal Meeting of European Union Heads of State.
According to police, traffic at the Rizoelia roundabout has been fully restored and is moving normally following the disruption caused by a protest by a group of livestock farmers. Protesters had blocked the roundabout, causing significant inconvenience to drivers, and indicated that they may escalate their actions by targeting key locations such as Larnaca Airport, according to state radio.
At the same time, increased security measures continue to affect traffic in Nicosia, Larnaca and Famagusta. Police said that short, temporary road closures will occur at intervals throughout the day, both on the urban road network and on the Nicosia–Larnaca and Larnaca–Ayia Napa motorways.
In Nicosia, Aglandjia Avenue remains closed from the traffic lights near the Aluminium Tower to the Academia roundabout between 7.30am and 6pm due to activities at the Conference Centre.
Police are urging the public to remain patient and to comply with traffic arrangements and instructions from officers on duty, warning that delays are likely, particularly during peak hours and along major routes.
