With a delay of around six months, the long‑discussed redevelopment of Pattichio Park in Larnaca is nearing completion. The project, considered the largest green space in the city, faced significant delays due to changes to the original plans and restrictions imposed by the Game and Fauna Service on construction hours. This is because the area falls within the Natura 2000 network, being located next to the salt lake.
Mayor Andreas Vyras told Politis that the project will be officially handed over to the Municipality of Larnaca by the end of the current month, with the park expected to open to the public in early July. He also said that the municipality will soon launch a tender for the lease of the café to operate within the park.
It is recalled that the project began in autumn 2023, but along the way reactions from part of the public led to a temporary suspension of works and substantial revisions to the plans.
The changes focused mainly on reducing concrete surfaces, and following consultations, the necessary adjustments were made to the original designs. The main modifications included the removal of all sports courts, the skatepark and most parking areas, except those along Artemidos Avenue and Ipirou Street.
Additionally, it was decided that environmentally friendly materials will be used for all pedestrian pathways. The park will feature a circular elevated pedestrian bridge, a botanical garden, a dog park, an open-air gym overlooking the salt lake, a restaurant with a playground and new walking routes.
