More than €14 million have been secured by the Famagusta District Local Government Organisation for the construction of flood protection works in Paralimni.
The Famagusta District Local Government Organisation announced the approval of co‑financing from the Directorate‑General for Development of the Ministry of Finance, amounting to a total of €14,280,000 including VAT. The project is considered a decisive infrastructure intervention that will substantially strengthen flood protection in the Paralimni area and address a long‑standing and critical issue for the safety of residents.
The flood protection works are planned across the entire Paralimni area, in locations considered vulnerable to flooding phenomena. The co‑financing falls within the framework of the Cohesion Policy programme “THALEIA 2021‑2027”, which supports strategic investments aimed at strengthening infrastructure resilience and sustainable development of local communities.
According to the local district local government organisation, the implementation of the flood protection works is expected to lead to a substantial improvement in stormwater management, a significant reduction in flood risks, and enhanced protection of property and citizens’ everyday lives.
“The Famagusta District Local Government Organisation continues to promote projects of strategic importance that enhance safety, sustainable development and quality of life for the province’s residents,” the organisation’s announcement concludes.
