Out of the 478 products included in the government's latest 'e-basket' price watch, the price mechanism identified 241 joint product codes for Sklavenitis, Athienitis, Ioannidis, Metro and Alphamega, chosen for sharing the most products in comparison with other supermarkets.
The total cost of the same stores across each district mostly remained the same.
Meanwhile, the total number of products included in the e-basket (or e-kalathi in Greek) dropped this month in comparison to August. Also, the joint product codes for Lidl and POP LIFE were very low against other major sellers, which simply means they are limited, giving consumers a lot less options on the shelves.
In the general price comparison, Sklavenitis was the cheapest with €930.60 across 234 codes, followed by Athienitis at €958, Ioannidis at €1000, Metro also €1000 and Alphamega with €1017, a significant difference of almost €87, between highest and lowest.
On 38 dairy products, Sklavenitis remained the cheapest option at €106, a €10 difference with Alphamega, the most expensive of the supermarkets compared.
On personal care products, Sklavenitis was once again at the lowest end of the spectrum with €139 on 28 products, while Alphamega was at €157.
From 17 bread products selected, the supermarkets shared similar prices across the board (€50-€51 euro), with just Metro slightly higher at €55.
E-kalathi is an electronic service provided by the Consumer Protection Service of the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry, which allows consumers to compare the prices of selected products (among different stores/supermarkets in Cyprus), either individually or as 'baskets'. The service may be accessed at: https://www.e-kalathi.gov.cy/.
