The state has done its duty supporting citizens in need, a reality which we sadly don't often see these days, offering a desperate family, lease of hope. And an expensive one at that.
Abraham, a five year old boy, is suffering from Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis (ADEM), a life threatening neurological disorder and following an urgent appeal, President Christodoulides called up the mum yesterday to assure her that the government will be covering the expenses of the boy's transfer and treatment at a specialised centre in Israel.

The issue was widely publisised after the mum sought financial assistance through social media, causing the state's immediate positive reaction, it has to be said. Christodoulides called her yesterday afternoon to give her the good news and wish her son a speedy recovery.
Abraham's mum has extended warm thanks to the Cyprus government on Facebook, but also everyone who supported the family in any way during this difficult time.
'Even if it was a prayer, sharing their story or a message of love,' she said, calling the public response incredible and empowering.
'We have proved that humanity has no borders', announcing that the go fund page set up will now be closing and the money collected will go towards Abraham's treatment.
Doctors at Alder Hey Children's Hospital had notified the boy's family that he was in critical condition and they are fearful that the current treatment on offer, might not improve his condition.
Several hospitals in Israel and the United States specialise in ADEM and have shown significant success with similar cases.
The family had focused all its efforts into finding the money needed to gain access to one of these hospitals, providing the best opportunity possible for survival and recovery.
