On the occasion of Library Lovers’ Day, celebrated internationally every year on February 14, the University of Cyprus Library invites the public to a special event dedicated to the love of books and reading.

On Monday, 16 February 2026, from 10am to 12pm, on the ground floor of the Stelios Ioannou Information Centre – Library, the university will carry out an event entitled, “A blind date… with a book”.

Visitors will have the opportunity to choose a wrapped book –  without a cover or title – relying only on a few keywords, and enjoy the pleasure of a literary discovery. As part of the event, participants are invited to answer the question: “Tell us why you love your library.”

Those who take part will be entered into a draw to win one of five collectible tote bags from the Stelios Ioannou Information Centre – Library.

Library Lovers’ Day began in Australia in 2006 at the State Library of New South Wales and was established nationwide in 2007 with the participation of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Its initial aim was to highlight the role of libraries and their services; however, it soon evolved into a day dedicated to the emotional bond between people, books and reading.

Today, Library Lovers’ Day is celebrated internationally, with a different theme each year and creative activities that promote reading culture, creativity and public participation.

The University of Cyprus Library event aims to promote a love of reading, strengthen the meaningful relationship between the public and books, and highlight the role of the library as a space of learning, knowledge and cultural experience.

Participation is free and open to all members of the university community as well as the wider public.
