Seven people were arrested overnight during coordinated police operations across Cyprus, as officers carried out large-scale patrols in urban areas.

According to the Cyprus Police, the arrests were linked to various offences. These included drink driving and the illegal possession of an offensive weapon.

The operations took place at key points in towns and cities across the island. Police said the aim was to prevent serious crime, maintain public order and strengthen public safety.

During the night, officers stopped 960 vehicles for checks. A total of 1,106 people travelling in those vehicles were also checked. At the same time, 62 premises were inspected as part of efforts to tackle unlawful activity. Five reports were issued following those inspections.

Traffic controls formed a significant part of the operation. Police carried out 573 alcohol tests. From these, 45 drivers were reported for driving under the influence of alcohol. In total, 261 traffic reports were issued for various road offences.

As part of the wider investigations, 21 vehicles were seized.

Police said the coordinated operations continue daily. They include increased patrols, targeted checks and immediate operational action. The stated objective is to prevent and suppress crime, protect the public and maintain public order across Cyprus.
