New fines for traffic offences recorded by the traffic camera enforcement system came into force on 6 March 2026, following a decision adopted by the Council of Ministers and published in the Official Gazette of the Republic.

According to a police announcement, the provisions are implemented under Law 91(I)/2024, which introduces changes to the out-of-court settlement of offences involving red traffic light violations at camera-monitored intersections. The measures apply from today and do not have retroactive effect.

New penalty structure for camera-recorded violations

The revised penalties for offences recorded by the Photo Enforcement System are as follows:

Crossing the mandatory stop line at camera-monitored intersections: Out-of-court fine of €25.

Failure to comply with a red traffic signal at a camera-controlled intersection where there is a pedestrian crossing (vehicle entering the pedestrian crossing): Out-of-court fine of €85 and three penalty points.

Failure to comply with a red traffic signal with the vehicle entering a point beyond the pedestrian crossing:

Out-of-court fine of €300 and three penalty points.

Failure to comply with a red traffic signal with the vehicle crossing the mandatory white stop line where there is no pedestrian crossing, entering the intersection: Out-of-court fine of €300 and three penalty points.
