A yellow weather warning for isolated but intense thunderstorms has been issued for Cyprus, with conditions expected to worsen on Friday.
The met department announced the alert on Thursday afternoon, stating it will be in force from 11am to 11pm local time. The warning highlights that storm activity is likely to affect parts of the island intermittently, particularly in western and southern areas.
According to the forecast, rainfall intensity may reach between 35 and 55 millimetres per hour in affected areas. Hail is also expected to accompany thunderstorms.
Authorities said winds will vary and are likely to strengthen during the storms, potentially adding to the impact of the adverse weather conditions.
Residents are advised to remain cautious, especially in areas prone to sudden heavy rainfall and localised flooding.
