Large numbers of local and foreign visitors converged on the Troodos area on Wednesday evening to observe the peak of the Perseid meteor shower, aided by a moonless sky that offered clearer viewing conditions.
Vehicle queues at Amiantos Astropark
Queues of vehicles formed in the area of Amiantos Astropark, where two separate events were held: one organised by the AstroVerce Astronomy Club, in collaboration with the Cyprus Planetarium, and another by the Nightsky Explorers Club.
Visitors equipped for a night under the stars
Equipped with warm clothing, blankets, chairs, food and drink, participants had the opportunity to enjoy the Perseids away from city lights, with many turning their attention skyward together, while others opted for a quieter experience at more isolated spots.
Events held across the island
Stargazing events were also organised by the Troodos Observatory in Agridia, the Cyprus Planetarium, the Kampos Community Council at Kampos Astropark, and the Anglisides Olive Museum. The Larnaca Photographic Societyorganised a photography outing at the Prodromos Dam.

Today marks the last day the Perseids will be at their peak, and the Kition Planetarium and Observatory is holding its established viewing event at the KiteMed Kitesurfing Club, on Softades beach in Larnaca, starting at 19:00.
