Many popular websites and applications worldwide were off the grid this morning, due to an Amazon technical glitch that led to a digital breakdown in services.

The company stated that its cloud services unit, AWS, was experiencing a widespread outage, with those affected including Snapchat and Robinhood.

"We can confirm elevated error rates and latency for multiple AWS Services in the US-EAST-1 region," AWS said in an update on its page.

The Artificial Intelligence (AI) start-up Perplexity and the cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase attributed the outages to AWS.

"Perplexity is not working at this moment. The root cause is an AWS issue. We are working to resolve it," Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas said in a post on X.

AWS and Amazon did not respond to a request for comment.

Amazon.com, PrimeVideo, and Alexa are all facing problems, according to Downdetector. PayPal's Venmo was also malfunctioning.
