US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Saturday expressed Washington’s support for the people of Iran, where protests have been continuing for 14 days, while internet access has been cut off since Thursday.
“The United States stands with the brave people of Iran,” Rubio wrote on X.
US President Donald Trump, for his part, again warned Iran’s authorities on Friday: “They would be wise not to start shooting, because we will start shooting too.”
“If they start killing people as they have in the past, then we will intervene,” the Republican added, clarifying: “That does not mean we will send ground troops, but it does mean we will hit them very, very hard, where it hurts.”
Meanwhile, protests continued overnight on Friday in Tehran and other cities across Iran, where thousands of residents took to the streets, according to videos shared on social media platforms, despite internet access not having been restored in the country.
