Cyprus Reviews Trump Gaza Summit Invitation

The Republic of Cyprus is examining an invitation from the President of the United States to participate in a special summit on the reconstruction of Gaza scheduled for 19 February. Authorities have requested clarifications before deciding whether to attend.

Government Spokesperson Constantinos Letymbiotis confirmed that Cyprus supports the Gaza peace initiative under specific legal conditions.

Government evaluation of United States invitation

The Republic of Cyprus is currently assessing the invitation received from the President of the United States for participation in a special summit focused on Gaza reconstruction.

According to official statements, clarifications have been requested before a final decision is taken regarding participation.

Legal framework set by the Government

Government Spokesperson Constantinos Letymbiotis stated that the Government supports the Gaza peace plan proposed by the United States, provided that it operates within the framework of international law and United Nations resolutions.

The position was expressed during an interview on the radio programme Proino Dromologio.

Participation format and European Union representation

According to Mr Letymbiotis, selected European Union member states and third countries have been invited to attend the summit.

As a result, a unified European Union position is not expected.
