Cyprus has submitted targeted proposals in support of implementing United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803 on Gaza, ahead of the first meeting of the Gaza Board of Peace held in Washington, D.C..
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Minister Konstantinos Kombos participated in the inaugural session as an observer, following an official invitation. Fourteen other European Union member states also took part, while the European Commission was represented by Mediterranean Commissioner Dubravka Šuica.
Supporting UN Resolution 2803
Discussions centred on next steps and monitoring mechanisms for implementing the Peace Agreement and the related plan proposed by US President Donald Trump, as adopted by the Security Council through Resolution 2803.
Prior to the meeting, Cyprus submitted targeted proposals building on a six-point document presented by President Nikos Christodoulides, aimed at supporting the implementation of the resolution.
The proposals outlined practical options for complementary assistance across four areas: humanitarian aid through the Amalthea initiative; early recovery, restoration of critical infrastructure and reconstruction; provision of security training in cooperation with relevant EU missions; and operational support for a proposed International Stabilisation Force.
Humanitarian and stabilisation role
Regarding sustainable early recovery, Cyprus submitted a joint document with United Nations Office for Project Services(UNOPS). A separate proposal detailed six potential options for contributing to the International Stabilisation Force.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Kombos held a series of contacts with counterparts and other participating officials, stressing the importance of coordinated international efforts to promote stability and security in the region.
He underlined the constructive role Cyprus can continue to play, citing both its geographic proximity and the initiatives it has developed since the outbreak of the Gaza crisis.
The participation of Cyprus as an observer signals Nicosia’s intention to remain actively engaged in international efforts aimed at implementing the UN-backed framework and supporting post-conflict stabilisation in Gaza.
