The cover of TIME magazine’s 23 March issue has gone viral within hours of its release, drawing both praise and criticism across social media platforms. The image shows eight red “Make America Great Again” caps, each replacing the word “America” with the name of a different country, including Iran, Venezuela, Nigeria, Iraq and Syria.

The cover accompanies a feature article titled “Trump’s War” by Eric Cortellessa, which examines the geopolitical implications of the strike that killed Iran’s Supreme Leader and explores how Donald Trump’s “MAGA” political message appears increasingly reflected in his foreign policy.
Symbolism behind the TIME cover
According to the article, Trump campaigned for reelection presenting himself as a “peace president” who would avoid new military conflicts.
However, the analysis argues that his administration has authorised military operations in multiple countries within a short period.
“Trump promised to end wars, not start them,” the article notes. “Instead, he has deployed military force in increasingly dizzying ways. No other modern American leader has directed assaults in as many countries in such a short span of time.”
The cover visually represents this argument by placing the MAGA slogan across the names of countries where U.S. military actions have taken place.
Mixed reactions on social media
The TIME post featuring the cover on the platform X has attracted close to 800,000 views, generating a wide range of reactions.

Total and complete betrayal of MAGA and America First.
We never changed. Trump did.
Some users praised the magazine for what they described as a powerful political commentary on American foreign policy.

Confusion among some supporters of Trump
Several supporters of Trump appeared to interpret the cover as praise rather than criticism.
One user wrote that the image showed Trump “delivering results”, while another commented that the cover demonstrated how Trump had become a major historical figure.Others argued that the cover actually offered a critical view of American interventionism.
“I love all the MAGA supporters who think TIME is praising him here,” one user wrote. Another suggested the cover implied that Trump was focused more on foreign conflicts than on domestic priorities.
Poll reflects mixed public opinion
Some criticism also emerged from within Trump’s political base, echoing findings from a recent Fox News poll.
According to the survey, 57 per cent of U.S. voters disapprove of Trump’s performance in office, with many respondents expressing dissatisfaction with his handling of immigration, foreign policy and the economy.
Six in ten respondents said the president was focusing on the wrong priorities.
