Ukraine has signed a major new defence agreement to purchase up to 100 French Rafale fighter jets, alongside missile-defence systems and drones. The letter of intent was signed in Paris by President Emmanuel Macron and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, with the Elysee describing the deal as “historic.”
The signing ceremony took place at the Villacoublay Air Base near Paris. Shortly after putting pen to paper, President Macron posted on X, calling it “a great day” in French and Ukrainian.
Grand jour.

France has already transferred Mirage aircraft to Kyiv. Until now, however, Rafale deliveries, the pride of the French Air and Space Force, had not been on the table.
Last month President Zelenskyy also signed a letter of intent to acquire 100 to 150 Swedish Gripen fighter jets, signalling a broader effort to diversify and modernise Ukraine’s combat aviation fleet.
