President Nikos Christodoulides will chair a meeting of the National Council on Monday morning, where he is expected to brief political leaders on recent developments in the Cyprus issue.

The session is scheduled to begin at 10:30am and will focus on contacts and discussions following last week's visits to Cyprus by UN Secretary-General António Guterres and the newly appointed EU Special Representative for Cyprus, Raffaele Fitto.

On Saturday, Mr Christodoulides said that preparatory work had already begun at a technical level between Cyprus and the United Nations with the aim of creating the conditions for a successful expanded conference on the Cyprus issue.
