Temporary fencing is installed at the sea caves to protect visitors.

The Forestry Department has installed temporary fencing at the Cape Greco sea caves in Ayia Napa to prevent visitors from diving from the cliffs.

The move follows a sharp increase in rescue operations at the site, particularly during last summer. The surge in accidents prompted state authorities to find a solution that protects the public without damaging the natural landscape, as Cape Greco is designated state forest land.

Interdepartmental cooperation

The initiative was carried out in cooperation with several state agencies, including the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC), the Geological Survey Department, the Department of Environment and the Cyprus Fire Service.

The Forestry Department has urged the public to comply with warning signs and avoid activities that risk personal safety. Authorities confirmed that they will monitor the site to evaluate the effectiveness of the fence.

Official sources stated that relevant agencies welcome the development and expect a significant decrease in accidents. Multiple stakeholders had previously warned that fatal accidents were imminent without measures to restrict access while preserving the area.
