Limassol Municipality is set to transform parking in the city centre within the first ten days of July, with the rollout of a smart parking system covering approximately 2,500 spaces. Infrastructure installation has been under way for several weeks, with sensors already fitted to hundreds of on-street spaces to detect vehicle occupancy and enable electronic payment.
The project was tendered by the municipality in 2023, with a contract signed in June 2025 with Blue Sun Automation Ltd at a total value of €5,172,000 plus VAT.
How it will work
Drivers will be able to use a mobile app to view available spaces in real time, eliminating unnecessary driving around. The system also resolves a longstanding issue: parking meters in Limassol have not been operational for many years.
Managed municipal car parks -- including the Enaerios and molo facilities -- will be fitted with entry and exit barriers, with drivers paying electronically. Works at Enaerios in early July will include resurfacing, reconfigured entry and exit arrangements, improved layout and signage, a minor capacity expansion and the addition of trees. The molo car parks are next in line for upgrades.
Pricing still to be confirmed
Tariffs have not yet been finalised and are expected to be discussed by the municipal council's management committee in the coming period. Indicative pricing stands at €1 per hour, with a daily cap of €15, though a minimum charge may also apply. Concessions for permanent residents and other categories of residents are also under consideration.
The system will enable municipal traffic wardens to respond to violations in real time, as occupancy data will be available instantly.
