In a message attributed to him, the new leader says revenge is a demand of the Iranian nation and will come soon.

Iran's new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei threatened on Saturday to carry out attacks, including beyond Iran's borders, speaking of revenge for the death of his father, Ali Khamenei.

"Revenge is certain"

In a message attributed to him, Khamenei said revenge is a demand of the Iranian nation and asserted that it will come with certainty. Addressing his father, whom he described as a "martyr", he pledged to avenge his blood, as well as the blood of all those who lost their lives in the recent conflict.

Personal threats against those "responsible"

The leader of the Iranian regime said the country's authorities know the identity of those they consider responsible, from the highest to the lowest ranks, and issued personal threats against them, saying they will not be able to die in peace.

Khamenei further claimed that the threat does not depend on his own presence or on any official remaining in power. He warned that the revenge will begin soon and that individuals outside Iran will take part in carrying it out.

Fears of proxy attacks

His reference to supporters of the regime in other countries reinforces concerns that Tehran may attempt attacks through international networks, proxies or individual operatives.

Tensions with Washington remain high

The threats come amid continued high tension between Iran and the United States. Washington has warned it will respond decisively to any Iranian attack against American targets or officials, as contacts continue over the safety of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
