A fire broke out at around 22:15 on Saturday night in a high-security wing of the Central Prisons.
According to information available so far, three inmates are reported to have deliberately set fire to their cells and to the corridor of the wing, in which ten persons are held.
Mattresses burned, smoke damage caused
The fire burned mattresses and caused smoke damage to areas of the wing.
Members of the prison staff acted immediately and safely evacuated all inmates from the wing. The Fire Service was called to the scene and assisted in fully extinguishing the blaze.
One staff member taken to hospital
No inmates were injured. One member of the Prisons staff was taken to hospital as a precaution due to smoke inhalation.
The inmates have been temporarily transferred to another wing.
The circumstances under which the fire broke out are being investigated.
