The prices of fresh vegetables and frozen molluscs recorded the largest increases in July, according to the Consumer Price Observatory of the Consumer Protection Service. By contrast, laundry detergents and gas cylinders posted the biggest decreases compared with the previous month.
Overall price trends
Of the 45 product categories monitored, 31 recorded an increase, 13 recorded a decrease, and one remained unchanged compared with June. Compared with July 2025, prices rose in 39 of the 45 categories.
According to the Consumer Protection Service, the July assessment reflects the continued price increases recorded by the Statistical Service over the past four months, following the start of the war in the Middle East, with annual inflationat +2.9%, compared with +3.1% in June, +2.5% in May and +2.8% in April.
The biggest increases
Fresh vegetables and greens recorded the largest monthly increase, rising by 32.4%. On an annual basis, the increase reached 46%. This was followed by frozen molluscs and shellfish, up 12.3% on a monthly basis and 0.8% on an annual basis. Barbecue charcoal also rose, by 3.6%.
The biggest decreases
Thirteen product categories recorded a decrease compared with the previous month. The largest fall was in laundry detergents, down 5.2%. This was followed by gas cylinders, down 4.2% on a monthly basis, although their price was 16.9% higher than in July 2025.
