Strong Winds Hamper Efforts to Contain Fire Near Tala in Paphos

Ground forces are being reinforced near Tala, while the causes of the Mitsero fire are being investigated.

A fire broke out on Thursday at the "Vatouthkia" location, near the community of Tala in Paphos district. A second fire west of Mitsero in Nicosia district was brought under control within half an hour.

Strong winds near Tala

According to an announcement by the Fire Service, four fire engines from Paphos fire stations are operating at the scene. Four aircraft have also joined the battle against the flames, carrying out water drops.

The fire is burning dry grass and low wild vegetation. Strong winds in the area are hampering the work of the firefighting forces, and ground forces are being reinforced as a result.

Firefighting efforts are in full swing, with the competent services working to contain and limit the fire.

Fire west of Mitsero under control

Meanwhile, the Forestry Department announced that a forest fire was spotted at 14:15 by the Koroni fire lookout in the "Kokkinopezoula" area, west of the community of Mitsero.

The fire was brought under full control at 14:45, after burning one decare of wild grass.

Two Forestry Department fire engines with six personnel and two Fire Service fire engines with four personnel worked to put out the fire.

The causes of the fire are being investigated.
