Former Democratic Rally (DISY) leader Averof Neophytou has asked the party for the signature collection form that would allow him to take part in its internal process for selecting a candidate for the presidential elections. Party headquarters responded positively to the request and sent him the document.
Candidacy still unclear
Mr Neophytou has not yet clarified whether his candidacy for the presidential elections will be within or outside the party.
His move may indicate an intention, but it does not automatically mean he has decided to stand through the party's internal procedures.
The party's timetable
DISY's Political Bureau decided last Friday to extend the deadline for submitting candidacies and the electoral process by two weeks.
Candidacies are now due on 26 October, with the internal election set for 28 November.
Declared candidates so far
So far, party leader Annita Demetriou and MP George Pamporidis have officially expressed interest in standing through the party's procedures.
