Annita Demetriou has accepted Onoufrios Koulla’s proposal for a dedicated press officer during the election campaign.

DISY President Annita Demetriou is searching for someone to take over as the party’s spokesperson, having accepted a proposal by Onoufrios Koulla to appoint a person dedicated exclusively to communications, Politis has learnt. Mr Koulla currently combines the role with the duties of executive director and director of the party president’s office.

Koulla’s proposal to the party leader

According to information obtained by Politis, Mr Koulla informed Ms Demetriou several days ago that the party needs a new spokesperson for the presidential election campaign. He proposed a party official who would take on these duties exclusively, since he himself is responsible for the duties of executive director and director of the party president’s office.

Koulla confirms the discussion

Asked to comment, Mr Koulla confirmed the exchange of views with the party leader.

“Together with the president, we agreed that I will continue to carry out the duties of spokesperson, at least until the internal party procedures are completed,” he said.

He added that, in his view, the presidential campaign will be long and demanding, and a person without additional duties therefore needs to be found.

Timing of the appointment

DISY’s internal elections will take place on 28 November, and the decision on appointing a new spokesperson is therefore expected in December. In the meantime, the party president will begin looking for the person to take on the post ahead of a difficult election campaign.
