Fire crews remain at the scene amid concerns over possible flare-ups.

A fire that broke out in the buffer zone near the Kaimakli area has been brought under control, according to the Fire Service.

Speaking to the Cyprus News Agency, Fire Service press office officer Koula Mesaritou said the blaze burned approximately half a square kilometre of mainly crops, dry grass and wild vegetation.

“We had a fire front of around half a kilometre. Fortunately, the fire was cut off and did not spread into the free areas,” she said.

“The fire has now been contained and is under control. There is no danger of it spreading,” she added.

Mesaritou also said firefighting crews would remain in the area to carry out final extinguishing operations and stay on alert for any possible flare-ups.
