Farmers in Paphos are preparing to stage a protest next Monday at 10:00, voicing strong concern and dissatisfaction over the water supply issue and the reduced quantities expected to be made available for irrigation.
The farmers are set to gather on the road leading to Paphos airport, at its junction with the old Paphos-Limassol road. They have not ruled out blocking traffic as a means of pressuring the authorities to act.
According to the farmers, the quantities of water planned for allocation this year will be even lower than the already restricted volumes provided last year. They say the Water Development Department is seeking to preserve strategic water reserves in the dams, a policy that directly affects the farming community in the district.
Producers warn of a serious risk of crop destruction and financial suffocation, stressing that the situation has reached a critical point and calling for immediate solutions from the state.
