The court will decide on Monday whether Giorgos Christodoulou, will be released under conditions, following arguments from both prosecution and defence.

The Criminal Court has reserved its decision for Monday at 9:00am on an application for the conditional release of Giorgos Christodoulou, known as 'Zavrantonas,' following the reopening of the case after an appeal overturned his conviction.

Christodoulou appeared before the court on Thursday, with the prosecution requesting that he remain in custody until the completion of the new trial.

The prosecution argued that sufficient grounds exist for him to remain in detention as a remand prisoner.

The defence objected, with lawyer Christos Poutziouris calling for his client’s release under conditions. He told the court that alternative measures could ensure the defendant’s presence at future hearings, including financial guarantees and other restrictive terms.

After hearing submissions from both sides, the court adjourned its ruling until Monday.
