The Nicosia Criminal Court has ruled that Giorgos Christodoulou, also known as “Zavrantonas,” will remain in custody while his case is retried on charges relating to a large quantity of drugs.

The court rejected his request for release, adopting the arguments of the prosecution and concluding that the grounds presented justified continued detention.

It also took into account that Christodoulou is facing another ongoing case before a different Criminal Court in Nicosia.

It is recalled that Zavrantonas had previously been sentenced to 22 years in prison, but the Court of Appeal recently overturned the conviction and ordered a retrial before a new panel.

The next hearing on the substance of the case has been scheduled for 2 June, with the court stating that it will give the matter priority.
