A tragic fatal workplace accident occurred yesterday at midday on Monday at a seaside hotel in Geroskipou, with a young foreign worker as the victim.
According to initial information, the unfortunate man lost his life when he was crushed by glass panels during works at the hotel, under circumstances that are under investigation.
The exact details of the victim have not yet been fully established. To facilitate the investigations, a 56 year old man was arrested and placed in custody. Information also indicates that the young man was allegedly working illegally, which led to the arrest of the project subcontractor, aged 56, also a foreign national.
The scene was cordoned off immediately after the accident, while members of the Police, in cooperation with officers of the Department of Labour Inspection, carried out on site examinations to determine the exact causes and circumstances under which the tragedy occurred.
Investigations by the competent authorities are ongoing.
