Everyone involved in a road collision without injuries is legally obliged to move their vehicle, with penalties for anyone who discourages or prevents compliance.

“Anyone who encourages a vehicle not to be moved, whoever that may be, is accountable under the law,” the Director General of the Insurance Companies Association of Cyprus, Andreas Athanasiades, tells Politis

The law on moving vehicles after road collisions without injuries is clear, according to the Director General of the Insurance Companies Association of Cyprus, Andreas Athanasiades.

Speaking to Politis, Mr Athanasiades noted that, based on the provisions of the law, every person involved in a road collision has an obligation to move their vehicle. “Anyone who encourages a vehicle not to be moved, whoever that may be, is accountable under the law,” he stated.

At the same time, Mr Athanasiades noted that “when the matter was discussed at the association’s board, it was decided that each company would handle how it advises its clients to implement the law separately.”

Significant changes in legislation, when the Police are called

It is noted that Traffic Headquarters Sub Inspector Tasos Ashikis, speaking on Politis 107,6 & 97,6 and the programme Morning Briefing with Katerina Eliadi, provided important clarifications regarding recent changes in legislation concerning road collisions without injuries.

According to the new legislation, anyone who encourages or forces a driver not to move their vehicle or not to follow the prescribed procedures commits an offence and, in the event of conviction, faces a fine of up to 1,000 euros.

He clarified that no insurance representative has the authority to prevent the movement of a vehicle in accordance with the law and is obliged to accept photographic material and statements from those involved for the investigation and settlement of the case.
