A suspected kidnapping of a young foreign national was reported in the early hours of Friday to Larnaca CID, prompting a major police alert.
According to the complaint filed by his flatmate, a 22-year-old student from Bangladesh left his residence at around 6.30pm on Thursday to head to his first day of work at a factory in the Kofinou area.
Later that evening, the student’s father, who lives abroad, received a phone call and messages from an unknown individual demanding money in exchange for his son’s release.
Police have begun examining CCTV footage in an effort to trace the route taken by the young man. Investigators are also attempting to locate his mobile phone signal. As of late Friday, inquiries by Larnaca CID remained in full progress.
Another disappearance
In a separate case, police on Friday also reported the disappearance of 49-year-old Maksum Dymerskiv from Germany.
Dymerskiv arrived at Larnaca airport from abroad on 8 June with the intention of travelling onward to another country, but never completed his journey. His disappearance has prompted further alert among security authorities.
He is described as of average build, approximately 1.80m tall, with thinning grey hair.
