Former Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akıncı bid farewell to journalist Sevgül Uludağ with words of deep emotion, describing her death as a great loss both for journalism and for the cause of peace in Cyprus.

“When a loved one passes away, they leave behind a great void,” he wrote, adding that there is no other journalist who showed such persistence, questioned so much and contributed to revealing Cyprus’ “bleeding wounds.”

The former Turkish Cypriot leader stressed that her death is a great loss for efforts to uncover the truth about the missing and lost lives of the Cyprus tragedy.

He also underlined that Sevgül Uludağ “rendered a great service to peace and humanity in Cyprus”, expressing confidence that her work “will take its rightful place in the collective memory of both communities”.

Concluding his post, Mustafa Akıncı expressed his condolences to the journalist’s husband, her son and her relatives, as well as “to all of Cyprus.”
