A 28-year-old man has been arrested at Larnaca Airport in connection with a suspected drug trafficking case, after authorities discovered he was internally concealing cocaine.
Acting on intelligence, members of the drug squad (YKAN), in cooperation with Customs officials, stopped the suspect shortly before 7pm on Monday upon his arrival in Cyprus from abroad.
During questioning, the man allegedly admitted to carrying drugs inside his body. He was taken to Larnaca General Hospital, where medical examinations revealed a large number of foreign objects internally, and he was admitted for observation.
So far, the suspect has expelled six oval-shaped packages containing cocaine, with a total gross weight of approximately 60 grams.
A court process carried out at the hospital on Tuesday resulted in an eight-day detention order being issued against him for investigative purposes. He remains hospitalised under police guard.
Investigations by the Larnaca drug squad are ongoing.
