Nicosia municipality crews take down banner a day after reports

A large ELAM party banner that had been hanging across a road near the Ledra Palace area of the buffer zone in Nicosia has been removed.

The banner was taken down by Nicosia Municipality crews on Wednesday, one day after the issue was reported in the media.

A new photograph from the site showed that the banner was no longer suspended above the roadway outside the Ledra Palace area.

The banner had been erected during an anti-occupation event organised by the far-right ELAM party on the 52nd anniversary of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus and remained in place the following day.

One side of the banner displayed the party's name, "E.L.A.M.", while the other featured the slogan "CYPRUS IS GREEK LAND" alongside the party's emblem.
