A 24-year-old man from Israel appeared before Larnaca District Court on Friday in connection with limited disorder that broke out on Thursday between fans at AEK Arena in Larnaca, ahead of the AEK Larnaca-Beitar Jerusalem match in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League. The court imposed a €1,200 fine, which he paid.
Police say two groups of fans clashed shortly before kick-off, with security forces intervening immediately to prevent further disorder. The special water cannon vehicle "Ajax" was deployed to help restore order, while security was reinforced across the stadium's perimeter.
According to reports, tensions arose after a problem at AEK Arena's entrance gates. Beitar Jerusalem fans moved toward the car park in search of shade, causing disruption that led to the clashes. The situation was brought under control quickly, with no serious injuries reported, allowing the match to proceed as scheduled.
Investigators are continuing their inquiries, drawing on CCTV footage and witness accounts to identify and locate everyone involved in the disorder.
Tension had also been recorded on Wednesday evening at the roundabout by Larnaca port, where Beitar Jerusalem fans had gathered. Police intervened on that occasion too, making limited use of chemical agents to restore order.
