One of the largest road resurfacing projects ever undertaken in Limassol is currently under way, with a total of 70 kilometres of roads expected to be resurfaced, repaired and remarketed with new road markings by November.
The works cover both major traffic arteries and residential neighbourhoods and are aimed at improving road quality, enhancing road safety and upgrading residents' daily experience.
According to the municipality, around 50% of the project has already been completed, with improvements carried out on 169 roads across Limassol.
The programme is valued at more than €8 million and is being funded through the municipality's 2026 budget. A separate resurfacing programme funded under the 2025 budget is also still under way.
The 2026 contracts were awarded to Cyfield Asphalt Co Ltd and Araco Construction CY Ltd, which are responsible for resurfacing 27km and 28km respectively.
The project forms part of a significant increase in municipal spending on road resurfacing, with the budget rising to €8.2 million in 2026, compared with €4.3 million in 2025 and €1.6 million in 2024.
Municipal authorities said the increase reflects the deteriorating condition of roads across many parts of the city.
Once the resurfacing works are completed, an extensive programme for the construction and repair of pavements will follow.
At the same time, the Limassol District Local Government Organisation (EOA) is continuing works in the city centre involving the replacement of water pipelines and repairs to pavements.
The figures do not include separate road resurfacing works being carried out by the Public Works Department, including extensive resurfacing undertaken as part of the city's Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) projects.
